Fixing-Leak-In-Basement-Existing-House-In-Southeastern-Michigan-Part2

In my last post on this house project Fixing-Leak-In-Basement-Existing-House-In-Southeastern-Michigan I had shown you Herb Simms and his partner John's crew starting to uncover the area next to the wall which was suspected to be the source of leak into the basement.

In this post, we see the trench being dug up in front of the wall. There are some cracks in the wall near the pocket for the steel beam inside. Now ...

1) a bituminous coating will be applied to the wall for waterproofing
2) a waterproofing membrane -- EnkaDrain or equivalent will be applied to the wall
3) the trench will be filled with stone or crushed concrete, and graded to act as a French Drain
4) the top of the drain will be then topped off with a nominally 4" thick concrete slab

This will give us a multiple line of defense against any water migrating into the basement.
