Foundation ...

Properly designed and constructed foundation is essential for a building. It transmits loads from the building to the ground. Types include, strip / continuous / combined footings, pier and beam, slab-on-grade, raft/mat slab, piles, caissons, and so on.

Right choice depends on many factors such as the magnitudes of the loads, the nature of the supporting soil, the site conditions, potential natural hazards, climatic conditions. In colder climate where there is possibility of ground freezing, it typically extends below ground to a level below the frost line, although it is possible to design it as shallow-frost-potected element.

The surface in contact with soil needs to be waterproofed. Waterproofing is done by a specialty contractor.

Foundation Waterproofing - One step easy to apply liquid rubber foundation waterproofing products for ICF and standard construction. For home builders and waterproofing contractors.

Anatomy Of A Building Foundation

You will see the foundation disected as I talk about the foundation structure (the skeleton), and the exterior finish and interior finish )the skin) of the foundation. From there we will move on to the current choices in energy efficient foundations.
